Organic semiconductors firm Brilliant Matters raises $5.1 million.

Québec City, September 28th, 2023. Brilliant Matters Inc., a global leader in organic semiconductors manufacturing for solar energy will accelerate its production, scale-up and commercialization with a recent $5.1 million funding. This investment is co-led by cleantech Ecofuel Fund, specialized in clean technologies, and strategic Japanese partner GSI Creos Corporation. Desjardins Capital also joins Brilliant Matters’ existing shareholders.

Takashi Yanagisawa, GSI Creos executive officer, says; ‘’We are delighted that the additional funding from GSI and other investors will allow BM to expand its production facilities and thereby respond to requests from OPV manufacturers to increase the supply of polymeric materials, which they have been requesting for some time. GSI intends to further deepen its cooperative relationship with BM to secure supply volume for OPV customers around the world to meet strong demand and contribute to the spread of renewable energy, one of GSI’s most important areas of focus.’’

“The Ecofuel Fund supports the growth of Brilliant Matters for the development of its innovation in order to allow solar energy to enter a new era in an ecological and economical way,” adds Richard Cloutier, Managing Partner of the Ecofuel Fund.

« Desjardins Capital is proud to join this round of financing which supports the growth of Brilliant Matters, a pioneer in the production of high-performance semiconductor materials. We believe that Quebec’s economic growth requires the adoption of sustainable and innovative practices as well as the development of clean technologies, like what this Quebec-based company is doing », declared Nathalie Bernard, Chief Operating Officer of Desjardins Capital.

This additional funding will also support the development of a new generation of high-performance products: printable and flexible semiconductors that are more economical and above all, more environmentally friendly. Brilliant Matters is targeting the fast-growing solar energy market for flexible products with their organic photovoltaics product. ‘’Our pioneer semiconductor solution is now recognized by the organic photovoltaic industry as generating more energy from the sun while being more economical’’, said Jean-Rémi Pouliot, co-founder and CEO of Brilliant Matters. ‘‘At a time where global demand for energy is growing at an unprecedented rate and the world is moving towards green energy, Brilliant Matters is positioning itself to be a leader in this market.’’
