PBDB-T-2Cl has a similar UV-vis absorption spectrum as well as a similar bandgap than PBDB-T-2F.
PBDB-T-2Cl is used in high performance organic solar cells (PCE > 14%) when blended with non-fullerene acceptors such as ITIC-4F. [1] Indeed, PBDB-T-2Cl has shown a lower HOMO level that allows to obtain a high VOC while used with ITIC-4F acceptor to obtain a PCE of 14.4 %. This blend has also been tested on a 1 cm2 substrate and shown PCE of 11.5%.
This polymer has similar aggregation properties than its fluorinated counterpart. It is soluble in chlorinated solvents such as chloroform, chlorobenzene and o-DCB. It is also soluble in xylene.
